How to add product filters

If you are selling numerous items and categories in your online store, you can find filtered navigation useful. It helps shoppers find what they need which helps you grow your sales. You can filter items by:

- Size
- Color
- Categories
- Price
- Brand
- Availability in stock 
 

Before you enable filters

Make sure to follow these steps to ensure that your filters can be enabled correctly.

1) Update your store to the Next-gen Storefront which is the newest version of your Online Store. To do this, log into your Online Store and navigate to the bottom of your left-hand menu navigate to the Settings link. 

2) In Enabled Features section toggle the green switch to the right. You should see the message Your store is up to date :)

 

 

 

 

 

 





 

 

 

 

How to enable product filters in your Online Store

To switch on product filtering for your store:

  1. Go to your Ecwid Control Panel → Settings → Product filters.
  2. Click Enable filters.
  3. Enabled filters will appear on the storefront.

 How to add a new filter in your store

After enabling the filters, your Online Store will receive personalized filter suggestions based on your catalog settings — like sale price, stock level, product options, and attributes. Here are some examples:

  • Filter On sale filters products that are available in stock. All you need to do is to a sale price or stock level set up.
  • Filters by Product Options (for example, size and color) set filters for some of your products that match these options.
  • Filters Product Types filter out groups of products that share the same attributes. For example, in an online bookstore, you can set a filter criteria Cover to sort out paperbacks from books with hard covers.  
  • Filter by Phrase does a quick product search if a customer already knows exactly what they are looking for.

How to create new filters

Here is how you can add a few more product search filters

  1. In Settings, click Add New Criteria 
  2. In the next screen, you’ll see filter criteria that are available for your catalog settings depending on the product attributes you have added when creating new products.
  3. You can expand the filtering criteria to more products which will improve search results for your customers.

How many filtering criteria do you need?

This depends on the type of products you sell. If you have over 50 products that come in different sizes, colors, or styles, you should include those criteria in filtered navigation.

If you have only a few products you can perfectly get away with simple categories of navigation and a search box. 

Filter appearance in your Online Store

Filters appear on your Online Store category and search pages. Your customers can use navigation filters to sort products from that particular category or search results page. This keeps their shopping experience streamlined and they are focused on products that precisely match their needs.

 
















 

Tips to make the most of your product filters

 In addition to filters, you can take a few steps further to improve user experience in your Online Store:

  • Use categories and subcategories to group your products and help customers navigate easily
  • Make use of the menu widget and a search box to add to your menu app
  • Create filters such as Featured or New Arrivals and feature them prominently on the front page of your Online Store
